Does tennova accept Aetna?

Unless the hospital system and the insurer can agree on compensation rates, Tennova Healthcare hospitals in Knoxville will no longer be in-network for UnitedHealthcare insurance clients as of March 1.

On Tuesday, Tennova began distributing letters to patients at Physicians Regional Medical Center (formerly St. Mary’s), North Knoxville Medical Center, Turkey Creek Medical Center, Jefferson Memorial Hospital, LaFollette Medical Center, and Newport Medical Center alerting them of the impending change.

Tennova had been in talks with UnitedHealthcare for more than a year, according to Jerry Askew, vice president of external relations.

“Patients who have entrusted us with their medical treatment should be able to choose our hospital for any health-care requirements,” Askew added. “We’re still working with United to reach a mutual arrangement that will provide patients this option.”

Tennova’s for-profit parent company, Franklin-based Community Health Systems, “refused the rate increase we provided for their Knoxville hospitals,” according to Tracey Lempner, UnitedHealthcare’s public relations director for the Southeast region.

UnitedHealthcare “offered fair rates consistent with what other hospitals are paid for their services to ensure Tennova’s continued participation in our network,” according to Lempner, and to provide policyholders with “uninterrupted access to quality care without significantly increasing their costs.”

Tennova facilities have been used by around 15,000 UnitedHealthcare commercial and Medicare customers in the last year, she added. She stated commercial and Medicare programs will be affected, but not UnitedHealthcare’s TennCare plan.

Customers with UnitedHealthcare could still utilize Tennova hospitals, but they would have to pay higher out-of-network fees that might not contribute toward their deductibles.

Tennova has “agreements in place” with “all other major health plans in our area,” according to Askew, including BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Aetna, and Humana.

Members of other networks, such as Beech Street, Multiplan, and PHCS, may have access to Tennova facilities, according to the message, which advised patients to phone United’s sales director to “communicate your discontent with their choice.”

In 2010, UnitedHealthcare and Mercy Health Partners, the former owner of Tennova, were unable to strike a rate agreement. In 2011, HMA and UnitedHealthcare negotiated a new arrangement when Mercy was sold to Florida-based Health Management Associates.

The following is a list of the insurance companies that we most frequently charge on behalf of our patients. This list is subject to change, and it may not include all of the insurers or networks for which we charge. Contracting with an insurance company does not imply that you will be covered or compensated. Patients are responsible for their own deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, and non-covered services, which must be paid at the time of service.

As a referral source for our local agencies, we also work with TriCare and TriWest.

Tennova Healthcare, situated in Knoxville, Tennessee, and owned by Community Health Systems in Franklin, Tennessee, has expanded its brand with the acquisition of five more hospitals.

Who owns tennova health?

These hospitals are currently known as Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital and Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital, thanks to VUMC’s ownership.

Through an agreement with Tennova’s existing minority partner, GHS Holdings, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Clarksville Volunteer Health Inc., a Clarksville nonprofit, VUMC has acquired a minority ownership interest in CHS’s affiliated Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville hospital and related physician practices at the same time as the acquisition of these facilities.

The collaboration between Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville and VUMC is expected to open up new doors for Clarksville, Montgomery County, and the surrounding area in terms of medical resources. Oncologists and a multidisciplinary team from Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, for example, now provide care at Tennova Clarksville’s Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, and the new agreement will allow for a wider range of oncology services.

VUMC is increasing its ability to serve the people of Middle Tennessee with the acquisition of hospitals in Shelbyville and Tullahoma, as well as a partnership with Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville. VUMC bought Tennova Healthcare-Lebanon, a 274-bed hospital in Lebanon, Tennessee, in a 2019 transaction with CHS subsidiaries, which is now known as Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. VUMC will be able to continue the work it started with Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in bringing the benefits of academic medicine — cutting-edge treatments and knowledge gained through research and education — to residents of Bedford, Coffee, Montgomery, Rutherford, and Sumner counties through this transaction.

“Today is a watershed moment in our health-care system. I’d want to extend a warm greeting to the physicians, nurses, and staff of Vanderbilt Bedford and Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton hospitals as we begin the new year. I’d also want to send my greetings to our Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville colleagues. VUMC’s Deputy CEO and Chief Health System Officer, C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, said, “We have major work ahead of us that is critical to the health and well-being of these communities, and I look forward to working with leaders at these facilities toward the goals we share.”

VUMC hired nearly all of the workers of the Shelbyville and Tullahoma hospitals who were in good standing when the facilities were transferred to VUMC’s management. Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville, as well as its personnel and medical staff, are still part of the Tennova hospital network.

Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital is a 135-bed Joint Commission-accredited facility with 450 physicians, nurses, and staff. Are EPO and PPO the same?

Out-of-network providers are available with a PPO as opposed to an EPO. Unlike an EPO, which restricts members to a limited number of health-care facilities, physicians, and pharmacies, a PPO offers some coverage for out-of-network providers. Members may have a large number of options for health care for themselves and their families if the plan offers a large number of in-network providers.
