Why does the chiropractor feel so good?

I had never been adjusted before I started Chiropractic School, believe it or not. My family is a big fan of chiropractic, but until I went to school and learned what it really accomplishes, we thought of it as a technique to get rid of neck and back pain, which I never had.

So there I was, in the first trimester of school, meeting for the first time with my student intern, Corey. He used Diversified Technique to adjust me, which is the same technique I utilize for the majority of my practice members. I recall leaping from the table, knowing something incredible had occurred…I’m not sure what it was, but I knew I felt fantastic. I flew through the halls in euphoria, unable to stop grinning…ecstatic that I would spend my career making people feel this great.

So, why did my body immediately feel better after being adjusted? We are aware of chiropractic’s long-term benefits: improving spine structure and function helps the nervous system to function at its best, repairing our bodies from the inside out. However, we also recognize that this correction will necessitate more than one change. Mechanoreception is the key to all of the fantastic short-term impacts I experienced with a single tweak.

Mechanoreception: The Key to Pain Relief

What is mechanoreception, and how does it work? What a great question! Simply defined, it’s a way of getting information into your brain that your brain enjoys. Consider the following scenario: Remember when you were a youngster and you accidentally banged your elbow? Isn’t your initial instinct to grab and rub your elbow? Have you ever wondered why we do things the way we do? Because rubbing that location transmits mechanoreception signals to the brain, it helps to mask the pain. We don’t even have to consider doing it! How great is it that our brain simply instructs us to do it naturally?

There is a lot of mechanoreception going from your spine to your brain when I alter your spine. This causes certain parts of your brain to do a few of things. First, just as when you bumped your elbow, the positive signals assist to mask any pain signals arriving from that location of the body. Second, endorphins are released by the brain, which provide us with emotions of pleasure and happiness. These endorphins also help block pain signals and last a long time after the adjustment, allowing us to maintain our pleasant mood. In a nutshell, this is how the adjustment works and why it feels so amazing. So continue to modify!
