Does Datatag lower insurance?

Is Datatag any good?
When it comes to protecting your bike from thieving scum, DataTag is the last line of defense, and with this Stealth Pro kit, you can code your components as well as the frame. It certainly makes it a sound investment for expensive bikes that are frequently dismantled and sold in parts.
If the worst happens, the Stealth Pro system takes a three-pronged approach to make your bike traceable. UV stenciling, DataDots, and deterrent labels are all employed, as well as online registration to keep track of the bike and your personal information. The procedure is so straightforward that it makes me wonder why I’ve never bothered to mark my bikes before.
Stencils with the DataTag name, individual IDcode, and phone number to call if the bike is recovered are included in the box. Each stencil has an adhesive backing for easy application to the frame and forks. Stick the stencil to the frame with the provided cotton swab, apply the UVreactive liquid, wait thirty seconds, and then remove. The stencil may be seen since it leaves a white film on the details when removed, however this is easily removed with the provided alcohol wipe. That’s all there is to it.
DataTag provides four stencils to do the frame, fork, and two wheels, but I didn’t have somewhere to apply them because my carbon rims were already covered in transfers, so I simply did a couple on the frame and one on the fork.
The DataDots, which are minuscule dots with a uniquecode and the DataTag internet address suspended in a UV sensitive adhesive, come next.
A thousand of them are contained in a little vial with a mini brush, which you use to dab them on your components. Because each dot is only the size of a grain of sand, they will never be visible to the naked eye once the glue has dried clear. Thankfully, the DataDots are darker in color than the glue at the time of application, so you can see that there is one attached to the kit as you apply it.
To make sure everything was working, I grabbed an inexpensive UV torch and switched off the lights. The stencils, as well as the DataDot adhesive that highlights where the microdots are buried, are clear and vivid under black light. With a thousand to play with, you may put theDataDots on each component a zillion times in hard-to-scan areas, making it impossible for a thief to know for sure if they have them all.
Keep in mind that if your frame is bare metal with no laquer, paint, or powdercoating, you won’t be able to use the UV material. You’ll need to purchase DataTag’s electronic transponder kit for cycles.
The tamper obvious label needs to be visible (I chose with under the downtube) so that it functions as a deterrent and can’t be removed in one piece once attached. It contains your reference number as well as a QR code.
At half-past-seven on a weekday evening, I registered the system, and by half-past-eight the next morning, my documents had arrived, certifying that my bike had been entered into the database.
This kit costs £29.99, which I believe is reasonable value for permanent securitymarking, at least until the next respray. Aside from the actual goods, you will have access to DataTag’s database, which the police will have access to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. DataTag also provides free scanning equipment and training to police departments, so there’s a strong possibility you’ll get your bike back if it’s found.
If you want to sell your bike, DataTag provides ownership transfer documentation, similar to a V5 when selling a car. You must supply the new owner’s information and signature, and the database will be changed for a one-time admin cost of around fifteen pounds.
It’s a no-brainer to mark your kit with the Stealth Pro because of the ease of installation and piece of mind it provides.
It’s clear that it’s not a replacement for good security, but it’s a precaution to take. You may also qualify for a 10% discount on your cycle insurance.
How much does Datatag cost?

Does Alpha Dot reduce insurance?
Alpha Dot, like similar security technologies, won’t stop a thief from half-inching your steed, but when combined with strong locks and other sensible security, the set makes bikes and parts much more difficult to sell and more likely to be returned to their rightful owners. It can also help you save money on your insurance premiums.
Instructions, a nail varnish-sized tube of lacquer, and two caution labels were included in our test package. Microdots with a unique code linking owner and machine are embedded in the lacquer, thanks to an electronic database. It only takes a few minutes to apply the lacquer, but set aside a couple of hours when the bike(s) won’t be usedpreferably overnight; a warm room is ideal because the solution needs time to cure. Before drying, give the machines a thorough cleaning to remove any dirt, grease, or contaminants. Shake the lacquer for roughly a minute before using the brush to apply it creatively around the frame and components. If your application is interrupted, you can reapply as long as you finish it within 72 hours of it being opened. The dots appear milky white at first, then dry clear as a clear coat. While you’re waiting for your cure, go to the Alpha Dot website and register your information and unique code. You’re done once you’ve applied the warning stickers.
Thieves want gleaming, anonymous gear that can be readily sold on with no questions asked, but Alpha dot is riskier because they can’t be sure of completely eradicating all traces. The technique is especially useful on bikes with pricey accessories like tagalongs and trailers; items that use transponder systems are fine, but they usually only treat one machine. With a £15 administration fee, you can transfer registration to another party if you sell your bike.
Because the dots are so important, they can be easily removed without leaving a trace with solvents; putting information like name, address, date of birth, and/or other distinguishing details on laminated card inside handlebar ends, seat tubes, and other places costs nothing and can be just as effective. It is, however, far less invasive than having components etched/engraved, and any deterrent to the light-fingered must be appreciated.
Is Datatag a tracker?
GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment is a valuable piece of equipment that is readily stolen. A growing number of thefts have been reported to the police, but the lack of identification signs makes it impossible to properly identify the units.
