What Does ODS Insurance Stand For?

PORTLAND, Ore. (6 May 2013) — Pacific Northwest health benefits pioneer ODS announced today that it is changing its name to Moda Health in a bold step signifying its broad embrace of healthcare transformation and heightened customer expectations.

ODS has quietly created a wide, vibrant array of health insurance and business goods and services since its founding in 1955 in Oregon. It is now the state’s largest privately held firm, with annual revenues of about $2 billion.

“The moniker ODS served us well for 57 years,” said Robert G. Gootee, CEO of Moda Health. “But today our reach extends far beyond dental, and far beyond Oregon.” “From Ashland to Anchorage, we provide medical, dental, pharmacy, and vision insurance to more than 1.6 million individuals.” “Our new name more accurately portrays who we are and what we provide to the communities we serve.”

Moda Health is more than just a spruced-up name. It’s a fresh new look that reflects the company’s commitment to helping people get better faster and live longer. The word “moda” comes from the Latin term “modus,” which means “path.”

“Our organization is changing faster than ever,” said Moda Health president William Johnson, MD, MBA, FACS. “Our new brand helps us communicate the powerful and compelling story that we are a new kind of health firm, one that bridges the value gap by reaching out to patients, healthcare organizations, and employers.” Moda Health creates, implements, and expands collaborative quality-driven solutions throughout the communities it serves.”

Are Moda and Delta Dental the same?

In 1954, a group of dentists realized that not everyone in Oregon and across the country was receiving proper dental care, so they set out to aid these families with their dental and health requirements. Moda, Inc. and the Delta Dental Plans Association sprang from this.

Today, we continue to help our members pursue healthier lifestyles as part of our mission to develop healthier communities.

What is connexus network?

Our individual and family medical plans come with a provider network that connects you to care both locally and nationally. As an OEBB member, you have access to this provider network as part of your health plan.

Connexus Network

In the state of Oregon, this is one of the largest PPO networks. Thousands of primary care providers and specialists collaborate with Moda Health to help you stay healthy.

In- and out-of-network care

It’s crucial to realize that services from out-of-network suppliers may cost more than ones from in-network providers. Out-of-network providers may also charge you the difference between your plan’s maximum allowed and their billed rates. “Balance billing” is the term for this. This is not done by in-network providers. To discover more about in-network and out-of-network benefits and prices, consult our plan summaries or your Member Handbook.

Travel network

When you’re on the road, help is never far away. Each medical plan in Oregon includes access to our travel network. Members can use the First Health Network to get in-network care while traveling outside of Oregon. Any dependents who are listed as living outside the primary network area can use First Health Network to receive in-network benefits. So go off and discover the world.

Please keep in mind that the Moda Health travel network is not a substitute for a primary network. Members must use in-network services whenever possible, and in-patient services require preauthorization.

Does OHSU take Moda insurance?

OHSU offers three medical plans – OHSU PPO, OHSU EPO, and High Deductible with HSA – to give postdocs and their families with a variety of health care coverage alternatives. Moda Health administers each plan, which is self-insured, meaning OHSU pays medical costs directly.

Why are Portland called Rip City?

The term Rip City is most commonly associated with the Portland Trail Blazers, the city’s NBA team. Bill Schonely, the Blazers’ play-by-play announcer, created the word during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on February 18, 1971, the team’s inaugural season. Blazers guard Jim Barnett hit an ill-advised long-range shot that went in a few days before the three-point field goal, giving the new club hope for a victory against the powerhouse Lakers. “Rip City Baby!” said Schonely, ecstatic. Schonely confesses he has no idea where he got the phrase, but it has been associated with the team and the city of Portland.
