PORTLAND, Ore. (6 May 2013) Pacific Northwest health benefits pioneer ODS announced today that it is changing its name to Moda Health in a bold step signifying its broad embrace of healthcare transformation and heightened customer expectations.
ODS has quietly created a wide, vibrant array of health insurance and business goods and services since its founding in 1955 in Oregon. It is now the state’s largest privately held firm, with annual revenues of about $2 billion.

In- and out-of-network care
It’s crucial to realize that services from out-of-network suppliers may cost more than ones from in-network providers. Out-of-network providers may also charge you the difference between your plan’s maximum allowed and their billed rates. “Balance billing” is the term for this. Travel network
When you’re on the road, help is never far away. Each medical plan in Oregon includes access to our travel network. Members can use the First Health Network to get in-network care while traveling outside of Oregon. Any dependents who are listed as living outside the primary network area can use First Health Network to receive in-network benefits. So go off and discover the world.
Please keep in mind that the Moda Health travel network is not a substitute for a primary network. Members must use in-network services whenever possible, and in-patient services require preauthorization.
Does OHSU take Moda insurance?
OHSU offers three medical plans – OHSU PPO, OHSU EPO, and High Deductible with HSA – to give postdocs and their families with a variety of health care coverage alternatives. Moda Health administers each plan, which is self-insured, meaning OHSU pays medical costs directly.
Why are Portland called Rip City?
The term Rip City is most commonly associated with the Portland Trail Blazers, the city’s NBA team. Schonely confesses he has no idea where he got the phrase, but it has been associated with the team and the city of Portland.
What does Moda stand for in Portland?

Are EPO and PPO the same?
Out-of-network providers are available with a PPO as opposed to an EPO. Unlike an EPO, which restricts members to a limited number of health-care facilities, physicians, and pharmacies, a PPO offers some coverage for out-of-network providers. Members may have a large number of options for health care for themselves and their families if the plan offers a large number of in-network providers.
